It may be difficult to pronounce, but Funkranomicon (funk-rä-näm-e-kon) delivers the Funk! This six-person band, based in the Santa Cruz Mountains, plays high energy, “super-danceable” original Funk and Soul tunes. The six-person band plays venues and festivals like Don Quixote's, The Santa Cruz Hop N' Barley Festival, Cloud's Downtown, The Brit, and The Crow's Nest. Their debut CD Blood To Groove was released in 2001. The band’s upcoming CD Book of Funk, due to be released in August 2011, is produced by Milton Davis, who’s worked with the Neville Brothers, Brandy and Dionne Farris, among others.
An up-and-coming band with cult following in the Bay Area, Funkranomicon is appearing at the festival as a result of a unique experiment in audience curation—our Facebook community chose it from a field of 6 finalists in late July as being the best band to open for the Ohio Players.
