Jazz for Kids

New this year is Jazz for Kids, a series of programs at the A's Next Gen Stage in which seasoned Jazz artists interact with  young players and attendees about their individual musical paths, and the unique possibilities and demands of the Jazz genre. The programs give budding musicians the unique opportunity to meet the artists and then see them perform in a concert setting.

See the line-up for scheduled artists. Most stages are outdoors and family friendly. Brunch at the Latin Stage, dance at the Salsa stage, have a snack on the grass at the Main stage, learn at the Tech Museum, listen to young musicians, have fun at the kids area…

Brunch at the Latin Stage

Come Saturday and Sunday at noon to the Castellano Latin Stage with your children, seat at one of the outdoor tables, order your brunch from the restaurants along the street and enjoy the communicative cheerful rhythms of Latin bands.

The A's Next Gen Stage

This Youth Stage features the best youth jazz bands of the Bay. It is located inside the Tech Museum. Your children will enjoy listening to other children playing jazz. On Saturday and Sunday, at 3pm (for ages 8 to 12) and 4pm (for ages 3 to 7) each day, jazz musicians will introduce young kids to jazz.

The Tech Museum Galleries

The Tech Museum is part of the festival boundaries. Your admission to the festival gives you access to all the museum galleries. The Tech Museum will host a special music-themed scavenger hunt as part of the Jazz Fest program. Visitors will be challenged to discover and experience various exhibits that feature lessons in sound waves, notes and tones. Head over to each of the 6 stations to learn how to use sound waves to create a variety of pitches, how vibration can translate into sound, how voice and music can bounce, how sound can help us see inside our bodies, try to see if you can make a familiar song sound different by changing a few notes, and even learn how magnets and solar have brought music to thousands of people around the world.

The Tech Museum is a dynamic learning resource designed to bring science and technology to life through educational, hands-on exhibits and one-of-a-kind floor programs. This activity is great for children years 6 and up, even adults will enjoy what the Tech Museum has planned! Ask for your Scavenger Hunt passport at the lobby. Open 10 am to 7 pm, and remember, your admission to The Tech Museum is included in your Jazz Fest admission!
